Consultation Visit

Contact us to schedule a free, no-pressure meeting - a time to get to know Karen & the student midwives, learn more about WomanWise Midwifery’s services, and ask your questions. Let’s see if we’re a good match!

Appointments With Us

Your visits with WomanWise are an unhurried hour; giving us time to get to know one another. During each visit you will be encouraged to share your life with us, your ups as well as your downs, and given ample time to ask us all your questions. If we don’t readily have the answers, we will actively seek them out while directing you to the resources that you need.  During that hour we will check your baby’s growth, your continued good health, and grow our relationship. What we are building at each visit is a bridge of trust, so important for the journey you and your family are on.

After your first visit to Karen’s office, you will no longer be a guest, and are encouraged to make yourself at home, make a cup of tea, have a nourishing snack, put your feet up and relax…

We see our clients at our office every four weeks until 28 weeks, every two weeks until 36 weeks when we will have a home visit in your home, and then weekly in the office until you have your baby. Group prenatals are offered every 2-3 months; these gatherings are about building community, sharing care, stories, and fellowship, with a potluck lunch at the end. After your birth we return to your house at least 2-3 times and you come see us at the office for your six week visit. We remain on call for visits at your home for 2 weeks after your birth and encourage you to call or text without hesitation with any urgent concern; that’s what we are here for!

Fees, costs, and paying for WomanWise services

  • As of January 2025 fees for comprehensive midwifery care are $6800.

I never want issues regarding money and payment to interfere with our care-giving relationship. My work as a midwife is much more than a job, and the reality is that my fees allow me to be available and accessible to you throughout your entire pregnancy.  I realize meeting the expenses will take planning for most families, and I am committed to working together to develop a clear and suitable payment plan at the beginning of your time in my care. A few discounts are available for families that are eligible for Medicaid.

An initial deposit of $600 is required by the first visit to ensure your place on our calendar, with the total fee due by 36 weeks. Flexible payment plans are offered to all clients.

  • Covered by the fee:

    • Monthly prenatal visits in the office

    • Blood draws or lab specimen collection if needed at the office (additional fees will be charged by the lab for processing the specimens)

  • The short answer is yes, in some circumstances. While WomanWise is not an in network provider with any insurance carrier, we do work with a billing service for insurance billing for those clients whose plan covers homebirth with an out of network provider. When we are filing a claim for insurance reimbursement, the global fee of $6800 is still due in full by 36 weeks. I cannot bill the global fee until after your birth.

If you are not currently pregnant, a Health Share Plan is a good alternative to traditional Insurance and they often cover homebirth 100% (depending on the coverage tier).

Samaritan, Christian Healthcare Ministries and Zion Health are 3 recommended options.

CPMs in MD, DE & PA are not recognized providers with Medicaid, so Medicaid does not reimburse for our services.

For families with a Healthcare Sharing Plan, we provide an invoice at the conclusion of care which the client submits. In most cases, healthcare sharing plans cover all of the fee for our services.

  • WomanWise happily works with self-pay clients to find a way to pay for their care. As a small independent practice, we have a limited number of spaces each year for discounted fees. We believe that finances shouldn't be a barrier to having the birth you want. We can tailor payment plans to your budget and are open to barter arrangements*. Potential clients who are receiving assistance (food stamps, WIC, Medicaid) may qualify for a reduced fee.

We accept cash, check, PayPal and credit card/HSA payments with Square. There is a 4% convenience fee for PayPal , HSA & credit cards. This is charged by your card processor and not by us. Your account will be credited the exact amount that the card processor pays us.

*When bartering there is no discounted fee, our barter arrangements are for the full fee of $6800

  • We do!

When transferring care to WomanWise at or after 34 weeks, we offer a $200 discount off the full fee of $6800 if you provide complete records of your current pregnancy. No other discounts can be applied when transferring late to care.
